Drum & Music Circle
Jan 4, 2007
8 PM (please be on time)
2121 Bonar St
Berkeley, CA
$10 donation
CAYA’s newest community circle is not strictly a ritual circle (though power will, inevitably, be raised with our music!) All are welcome to participate as CAYA members play some of our favorite ritual songs, work to expand our repertoire of musical selections, and begin to develop a nonverbal communication structure that will serve our spontaneous ensemble music in ritual. Bring a drum, guitar, fiddle, horn, flute, rattle, or any other musical instrument you are able to haul in and out of the ritual space. Voices are welcome, too!
We’ll take nominations of songs from the group at the beginning of the circle and collectively choose which ones we will work from that list. We may like some so well that we play them for longer, or we may even let structured songs evolve into extended “jams.” Lots of possible ways this can go, folks, depending on the energy of the group. We’ll cast a circle to help us ground and open our inner ears to the divine music of the spheres, but we will not be invoking any particular directions or deities. At the end of the session, individuals may perform solo pieces they’d like to share with the group, time permitting.
This will be the first CAYA Drum Circle (and our first circle of the new year!), so come on out and help make it beautiful.
